Ayşe, Ali, Mehmet and Zeynep are middle-class millennials struggling to make ends meet in Istanbul. Either still living with their parents or hardly getting by without help from their families, they are all beset by similar woes: money crunch, joblessness, social isolation. In view of the world’s horrors that Zeynep enumerates in her diary entries, these are minor problems, ‘slight disasters’, but they are all-consuming, at least to the extent of making them cry in the still of the night. However, Umut Subasi’s first feature, Almost Entirely a Slight Disaster, is not a melodrama. With an appealingly light touch, it diagnoses the malaise of a generation that has run up against a dead end, one whose future prospects are indistinguishable from a game of chance. This is a world where astrology, the lottery and online personality tests compete with visa and job applications as life-shaping elements. Fittingly, the film is structured around chance and coincidence, with its handful of characters encountering each other in every permutation, as though there were no world outside this small social bubble. 侵华战争时期，日本人将掠得的北京猿人头骨偷运回国，途中沉没，成为一桩疑案。当年日本人将头骨化石偷运回国，隐藏几十年后，在和平环境下重新进行研究。他们将头骨化石中的DNA残片提取出来，进行培育，然后送入太空，据说这样便可以凭借太空中的粒子幅射，使其蕴育成熟。不料，载着北京猿人胚胎的飞船失事，坠入海岛，而北京猿人却成功地诞生了。 而王祖贤扮演的中国美丽女间谍的使命就是将北京猿人偷运回国，从此便和日本科学家展开了明争暗斗。最后，双方不分输赢，而是达成了共识：北京猿人不是任何一国的财富，他们属于大自然。于是，猿人一家三口和一只同样由基因技术复制出来的猛玛象被放归了自然。
