哲学系学生肖墨到殡仪馆实习，试图探寻“生死”答案，却遭遇导师陈辉离奇死亡。村里流传一口“应声井”可让人起死回生。陈辉之子死于事故后，陈辉在古井许愿，次日离奇失踪。肖墨随神秘殡葬师老白头返村调查，老白头以科学逐一破解“灵异”现象：井中尸体、养女上吊、浓雾里的鬼打墙等怪事背后皆是精心布局的骗局。当执念遭遇科学，谎言被真相撕裂，众人方知真正的深渊不在井里，而在人心。
